Day 4 - Choosing light over darkness
Renewed Within: Judas' betrayalChoose This Day
“And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.”John 3:19 ESV
Jesus Christ is the Light of the world. God’s own Son who came to reveal truth, expose sin, and offer eternal life. Yet the tragedy of this verse is that light shining in the world does not guarantee all will embrace it. Some choose darkness over light because the light exposes what they would rather hide. The darkness they love is not merely the absence of light, but the decision to choose their own way instead of following God.
Judas stands as a sobering example of this very choice. He walked with Jesus, heard His teaching, witnessed His miracles, and experienced grace. Yet in the end he followed his own desires and love for money instead of surrendering his life to the Lord Jesus Christ. His story reminds us that proximity to Jesus is never the same as surrender to Jesus.
We, too, may regularly attend church, read our Bibles, and pray, yet cling to shadows of self-will and worldly comforts. Jesus doesn’t only teach us His ways; He calls us to live in His light, fully yielding our hearts and lives to Him.
Each of us must answer:
• Will I follow the Light?
• Or do I love the darkness more?
“Choose this day whom you will serve… but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”Joshua 24:15 ESV
Who do you choose?
Heeding God’s Call
For Andrei, a teenage boy in our Family Support programme, the patient care, guidance and prayer of our family worker helped him respond to God's call. Once indifferent, he experienced a vivid encounter that redirected his heart, leading him to faith, baptism, and a renewed life.
