Offering support and dignity to the elderly

Mission Without Borders longs to be a friend to the most vulnerable — those who feel forgotten, isolated, and left to struggle alone. We demonstrate Christ’s love by building relationships and providing the practical help, encouragement, and companionship they so desperately need.

Struggling Alone in Old Age

“Will I manage today?” is a quiet but constant question for many elderly people across Eastern Europe. Small pensions barely cover food, medicine, or heating. Pain and declining health make even simple tasks exhausting. Many live alone. Their children may be far away, working abroad, or struggling themselves. Loneliness weighs heavily, and daily tasks become overwhelming.

Nadiya, 76, lives alone in western Ukraine. She walks with two canes and lives in constant pain. Some mornings she wants to get up and work, but the pain in her legs is so strong she cannot even take a step. Despite this, she slowly cares for her chickens, her dog, her cats, and her garden. The war has added fear, rising prices, and deep uncertainty. Her pension is not enough to live on, and her health has declined under the strain.

For years, Nadiya carried these burdens largely on her own. Then Mission Without Borders began supporting her with food parcels, hygiene items, and regular visits. Her neighbour Oleksandr, who works for MWB helps with water, wood, medicine, and hospital trips.

Through this care, Nadiya not only receives practical support but also prayer and spiritual encouragement — discovering that even in her loneliness, she has not been forgotten.

Today, she says the help she receives allows her “to live, not just survive.”

Elderly Nadiya smiles outdoors as she walks to feed her chickens, carrying on daily despite her pain.

No one should have to face their final years alone and struggling.

Give today and help bring warmth, food, and friendship to those in need. Together, we can be a lifeline to the forgotten.
