Svetlana lives with her four children in a small village. Their house is old and draughty. Freezing air blows through the cracks in the walls. They have no kitchen or bathroom, and on the coldest days, the children wear several jumpers to try keep warm, even in the house.
She and her husband Dumitru work hard, but there is rarely enough food. The children often live with the pangs of hunger.
Yet this is a family that loves Christmas. In one corner stands a small plastic tree, old and second-hand, but the children adore it. Svetlana makes Christmas beautiful for her children with the little she has.
What she cannot always do is feed them.

What is Operation Christmas Love?

What's inside a food box?
Enough for a family to share a proper Christmas meal, and to help get through the hardest days of winter:
Essentials like oil, rice, pasta, flour, tinned meat, sugar, salt and tea
A few special treats like chocolate or sweets for the children
Activity packs to bring a little Christmas joy
Contents vary a little by country and region.
How your box reaches a family
1. Local coordinators choose the families who need it most
Our staff and volunteers live in these communities and know the families - so every box reaches someone who truly needs it.
2. The food is bought locally and packed with care
We buy items in the country itself wherever we can - familiar, good quality, and supporting the local economy. Volunteers and local churches pack each box by hand.
3. Every box is delivered in person
Boxes are delivered directly to families or through local distribution points, with every box accounted for.
